Meanwhile, Elon Musk and his unelected army of DOGE coders are seeking unprecedented access to the personal data of millions of higher-education professionals and students. The Coastal Carolina University chapter of the American Association of University Professors/American Federation of Teachers (AAUP/AFT) is the local arm of a of concerted national effort to defend higher education from these existential threats. As members of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL–CIO), we fight in defense of the two fundamental pillars of the academy: academic freedom and shared governance.
